8GB iPhone dropped to $399.. What??
One month and 2 days after purchasing my iPhone, Steve Jobs walks on stage and tells the world that he is lowering the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399!! Now is it me or does that just suck for those of us that have already purchased our beloved little communications device?
Hell, at that price, I would've bought 2 of them. One for my wife as well.
Dont get me wrong, Im glad they dropped the price of them so more people can afford them but damn! The timing just sucks!

As much as I love Apple, this is typical behavior from them. I tend to wait until gen 2 or 3 of Apple devices for this very reason. This is a pretty egregious example though. If Apple wants to do the right thing they'll send rebates to the early adopters.
700,000 * $200 = $140,000,000
Nah, probably not going to see any type of rebate, but I wouldnt mind a $200 apple store credit, or $200 in iTunes credits! That would make up for it!

What actually does excite me about this is that I know when they come out with 2nd generation the price should be lower then what we paid.
Still, you have my sympathy because such a big price drop so soon after launch is really like kicking sand in your face. I think it's a totally lame move without offering rebates to early adopters, but my fingers are crossed anyway.
Actually yes, I am surprised. When you buy any piece of technology you expect some sort of price reduction down the line. Thats no secret. But your missing the point. The problem is that the price reduction was 33% of the price and it came just 2 months after release.
There are already reports of people getting refunds and Im in the process of it now. So evidently it was a bigger issue that they thought.
And as far as waiting goes. I was waiting, I didnt buy one when they first released. The only reason I bought mine a month ago was because the 8125 I was using was having major trouble, every call was dropping within 3 minutes of either making or receiving it. So I figured why not go ahead and upgrade to the iPhone. So I wasnt one of the "cool kids on the block" to get one of the first iPhones in town. Hell, most of the people I hang out with dont even know what the damn thing is and couldnt care less.

"[Apple] have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple’s website next week. Stay tuned."

Ok so its $20 more a month for the iphone which gives you unlimited web access and visual voice mail, I don't get why people cry about that?
Hell I was just with verizon and my base 1400 minute plan is the same price as att and if I would have added internet to the verison plan it would have tacked on $49 a month more, so the att plan comes in $30 a month cheaper.. So please tell me how the att plan is so much?
I was already with cingular. Have been for years. I just replaced my 8125 and its dataplan with the iPhone and its dataplan and it ended up being cheaper than the 8125.
