New Ruby on Rails Article on Apple Dev Site

I was up REALLY late last night doing some coding and I received an email from the Apple Developer site saying that they have added some new articles. In particular, the first one listed was a new Ruby on Rails walk-through that has been updated for Rails 2.0 and Leopard.

They show examples of coding a Rails app in Xcode which I thought was pretty cool. I have never used Xcode before but Im definitely going to at least open it and give it a whirl now after reading the article.

My hats off to Apple, a very good read!

You can find the article on the Apple Dev site.

MacHeist Ends Today - Only 6 hours left

MacHeist, the insanely discounted software bundle for Mac is down to only 6 hours left. All of the applications have been unlocked and sales are doing great! Not only do you get MAJOR savings on some great apps, 25% of the proceeds are donated to charities that you chose. As of this writing they have already sold 39,350 bundles and raised $437,958 for charity!

So if you have been putting it off, get your behind over there and get the loot! Several of these applications I have used already and they are fabulous. Especially CSSEdit and Pixelmator. Snapz Pro X is also included but I havent used it yet. I have read some really great reviews of it though.

I cant wait for the next bundle!

Open Letter To iPhone Customers From Steve Jobs

Well, after my post yesterday you could tell I was a little disappointed with the way Apple handled the iPhone price drop. However, I had made up my mind this morning that I wasnt going to worry about it. There are lots of folks who are claiming to get refunds already but I wasnt going to persue that route.

Now, Steve Jobs has posted an open letter to iphone customers. Basically Apple is offering $100 credit to be used at any Apple Store or Apple Online store for early adopters. Details he says, should be announced next week.

Thats cool. At least Apple is trying to make an effort to reward early adopters.

I guess with my $100 store credit, I will order another 4GB iPhone for my wife, she's kind of grown fond of mine.

8GB iPhone dropped to $399.. What??

One month and 2 days after purchasing my iPhone, Steve Jobs walks on stage and tells the world that he is lowering the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399!! Now is it me or does that just suck for those of us that have already purchased our beloved little communications device?

Hell, at that price, I would've bought 2 of them. One for my wife as well.

Dont get me wrong, Im glad they dropped the price of them so more people can afford them but damn! The timing just sucks!

Im in GEEK heaven!!!

Im writing this post while riding with my wife on the interstate! Im such a geek.

I just got a Cingular 8125 phone to use until the iPhone ships and I read that in the latest OS X upgrade (10.4.9) they enabled PAN support over Bluetooth.

It took me 2 minutes to connect to my phone over bluetooth from my Macbook Pro, configure the connection to be used for internet and now Im using the phones EDGE connection over bluetooth as internet access for my Macbook Pro. I love being a geek!!

Speaking of my geekyness, Im the proud new owner of a 61" DLP widescreen HDTV as of yesterday! Ive had the same 56" big screen in my house for over 8 years now and the wife and I decided it was time for an upgrade.

I have already watched the first 3 episodes of the new Discovery HD mini-series called Planet Earth on it and OMG, what a difference! Now its time to hook up the Xbox 360 for some HD Ultimate Alliance!!

ColdFusion Development on a Mac

I've been developing full-time on my Macbook Pro since early January and I have to admit, I love it. It wasnt always gravy, I remember trying to get this thing setup for development with ColdFusion and all of the ancillary applications and banging my head on the desk.

Now, Matt Woodward has released a very well written guide to setting up your Mac for ColdFusion development to help all of the folks either trying to make switch or who have planned on purchasing a new Mac in the future.

If you want to run ColdFusion on your Mac, go check it out and save yourself some headaches!

Wow... the holidays are finally over!!

Man, this was the busiest holiday season I have had in a LONG time. I havent had time to work on any of my projects due to spending massive amounts of time with my family. Well, now things are finally getting back to normal.

I have had quite a few emails from people about the Trac_Fu project wondering what the status was and offering some code for certain functions as well as letting me know that the HEAD revision of the SVN repo on riaforge.org wasnt quite useable without some tweaking. I figured I would take a few minutes before starting to working on it and let everyone know what the status is.

For starters, the SVN repo is not completely up-to-date. I have quite a bit of code that has not been committed as well as the updated database scripts. I have one final change that I am making to the history section of editing tickets and I will be releasing the first "official" release. I planned to have it done quite some time ago but Life got in the way.

I will post as soon as its ready.

On a brighter note, I got myself a shiney new Macbook Pro for Christmas and let me tell you, its the Bees Knees!! I really liked my 20" iMac but this thing is just unreal!!

Cant wait to start doing some Flex development on it!!

Feeling a little behind the times already...

I've been playing PC games for the better part of 10 years now and pretty heavily over the last 7 years. I've bought the "latest and greatest" video cards and all types of hardware just to stay ahead of the curve. It seems like technology is moving so fast that as soon as you buy the best thing on the market, the new stuff comes out with better specs and its half the price. Im pretty used to that coming from the pc world though. But I just got a huge smack in the face from Apple that I wasnt quite expecting.

As you can tell from my previous post, I just bought my first iMac and have been very happy with it. That hasnt changed, Im still very happy with it and Im finding more things everyday to like about it. But I just took a stroll over to the apple.com site as I do frequently hoping to see some new previews of the upcoming Leopard release and was greeted by a big sign that kind of made me feel like a jackass.

Apple just released a new line of iMacs including a stunning 24" widescreen model which I can image is incredible. The thing that gets me is that I just bought my 20" model 3 weeks ago and paid $1809 for it from the Apple store in Orlando, FL. Now 3 weeks later they introduce a new 20" model with twice the ram, a faster processor and a brighter display, "a full 40% brighter" according to the apple.com site and its only $1499!! Damn thats aggravating!!

Sometimes I feel like I just cant win!! My timing sucks!!
